Clare with Sarge and Duke
Hi my name is Clare and here's a bit about me and my boys I have been owned by dogs for the last 16 years but took a serious interest in being a dog training instructor 10 years ago and love it. My biggest passion is everything about dogs, especially training dogs...and their owners :) my favourite breed is the GSD Both my dogs are rescue dogs Duke is a black & tan GSD who I got at 7 months old. He was quite a handful and was also dog aggressive but after lots of hard work turned into a fabulous dog, I also found out he had kidney disease when i rehomed him and was told I would lose him at 1yrs old but he's still going strong at 5 yrs and hopefully for many more! Duke loves obedience training and has doggy OCD lol.....especially for his ball. Sarge is a blue/tan GSD x possibly akita who I rehomed at 12 weeks. He was extremely nervous even at that age as he & his littermates had a tough start in life and he would scream if I even touched his collar and would growl and bark at everyone and everything including me! He is now 4years old and has gained lots of confidence, he's a fab boy who loves his tricks and agility. I presently instruct the puppy class. Sadly since writing this Duke has passed over to the bridge RIP Dukey x Jaxon a GSD puppy has now joined the Gwilliam household :)
Jan, Darcey, Biff and Bustle
Hi my name is Jan, I have always had a love of animals especially dogs. I began my “love affair” with dogs at the age of thirteen when I exercised great danes and boxers for a show/breeder. Then as a young adult I found my first dog, a very beautiful cross Labrador /boxer who I proudly picked up from a local rescue. Bippy was just six months, and I was lucky enough to have her for 14 years. In later years I bred and showed American Cockers and Chihuahuas.
Over the years I’ve also been privileged to have owned four other rescue dogs, an ex racing Greyhound Trixie, a Rottweiler Buzz a Border Collie Gypsy, and a corgi type crossbreed Robbie who lived until he was 19 years! With Gypsy and Buzz, I competed in small local obedience competitions, and became hooked on dog obedience.
I eventually had a complete career change (being a PA for an architect at that time) and studied Canine Psychology, successfully obtaining an accredited achievement with the Institute of Animal Care Education. I then went on to run dog training classes’ and one to one tuition and became a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, I loved this “job”, and did this for eight years until moving house and location. I came to Daventry two and half years ago, and began attending the DDTC around three years ago. I have been a training instructor there for 18 months, and am really enjoying it, and finding it very rewarding.
I am now owned by three wonderful barmy boxers, firstly Bustle who is 12.5 years old. Bustle and I successfully competed at small local obedience shows, and she has achieved the Gold KC Good Citizens Award, and is now retired :) Biff who is 5 years and just a gem has his Bronze and Silver and Gold KC Award. He enjoys agility and tricks. Darcey 8 years old had dog aggression problems from 13 weeks of age, due to nervousness (unusual for this breed), but is now, after a long and hard journey, almost as perfect as the other two :). She too has her gold KC Good Citizens Award. I presently instruct the Intermediate and Advanced class. Sadly since writing the above our white girl Lady Bustle has gone to the bridge.Betty a little rescue boxer has now joined our pack :)
FHi my name is Natasha and I currently have two GSD's Gandalf (8 months) and Diesel (8 years old). I grew up in household of dogs ranging from a Pyrenean's and a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Growing up I had a passion for dogs and training, I Started training with my first GSD Amber almost 20 years ago now, attending regular training in Northampton and was also a valued member of a dog display team for over ten years. My Second dog (also a GSD) Howard was also a display team dog, we lost Howard to cancer in 2013 at the age of 11 and half, leaving behind his best friend Diesel who unfortunately has never been the same since losing his best friend. I continue to train Diesel at Daventry as a dog is never too old to learn new tricks (Likewise for his owner). Gandalf is a handful, a full on puppy who is trained in obedience by my Husband Neil and I also train him in Ringcraft. I have always been very interested in training others to have enjoyment withtheir dogs and after joining Daventry DTC as a member in 2014 was overwhelmed to be given the opportunity to train the bronze class (intermediate). I hope to put my many years experience at handling large breed dogs to good use! DDTC is a incredibly friendly club who make everyone feel welcome, getting out what you put in. I am at present instructing the beginners and intermediate class. Fury a GSD has now joined Natasha household. Natasha has recently achieved a diploma in Animal Psychology.
